★ Kali Yuga Kali Yuga, literally the “Age of Kali”—the age of quarrel, hypocrisy, and sin—is, according to Hindu scriptures, the last of the four cosmic ages (yugas). The other three are Satya Yuga (the Golden Age), Tretā Yuga, and Dvāpara Yuga. Who is Kali? Kali is described as “an invisible negative force created by Lord Brahmā.” The effects of Kali on the world are: Decline of truth, righteousness, and justice. Humans becoming selfish, materialistic, and pleasure-seeking. Decline of religious practice, honesty, and compassion. The growth of falsehood, deceit, and corruption in society. According to the Purāṇas: Kali’s father was Krodha (Anger). His mother was Hiṁsā (Violence). His grandfather was Dambha (Arrogance/Vanity). His great-grandfather was Adharma (Unrighteousness), whose wife was Mithyā (Falsehood). Thus, Kali is the great-grandson of Adharma and Mithyā. Adharma himself was born from a dark, sinful substance (mālina pāpaka) that emerged from the back of Lord Brahmā. ...
